An aura is the electromagnetic energy field surrounding a living body. It cannot be seen with an ordinary glance but it can be felt, and its colour and brightness shift with your mood, health and spiritual growth. A bright aura is said to hold negative energy at a distance; a faded or torn one leaves you open to stress and illness.
What is an aura?
Energy traditions describe every living thing as carrying a field around its physical body. It is not fixed: the same person carries a different aura on a rested morning and on a night of bad news, because the field tracks your state rather than your personality.
That changeability is the useful part. Reading your aura is less about being told who you are than about noticing what you carry right now.
How to see your own aura
Seeing an aura is not a rare gift. It is a matter of eye muscles and soft focus, and it improves with practice.
- Stand in front of a plain wall, white or a very pale colour, with no pattern to distract the eye.
- Bring your hands together in front of you with the fingertips touching, or hold one open hand up towards the wall.
- Narrow your eyes slightly and look at the gap between your fingers, a couple of centimetres beyond the edge of your hand. Not at the hand itself.
- After a while you will notice a whitish, transparent haze or a faint line of light around your hand. With practice, that line starts to take on colour.
Aura colours and their meanings
- Red: vitality, passion, the survival instinct, high energy. The aura of natural leaders and physically active people.
- Orange: creativity, cheer, emotional balance. Seen in sociable, adventurous people with an appetite for life.
- Yellow: intelligence, logic, self-assurance. The colour of analytical thinkers with bright ideas.
- Green: healing, growth, heart chakra energy. Found in people close to nature, forgiving and calming to be near.
- Blue: communication, intuition, calm. The aura of people who say the true thing without flinching.
- Violet or indigo: heightened awareness, psychic sensitivity, spiritual awakening. The colour of visionary souls open to universal knowledge.
- White: purity, spiritual protection, full connection to universal energy. Seen around people described as awakened or strongly protected.
Why your aura colour changes
The colour you see today is not a permanent label. Meditation, time outdoors and the thoughts you feed keep the field clear and bright, and the reverse is just as true after a long stretch of stress.
