Celtic Cross Spread

Celtic Cross Spread: One of the most classic and comprehensive spread types. This 10-card layout deeply analyzes layers including present situation, obstacles, past, future, subconscious, environment, hopes, and outcome.

What is Celtic Cross Spread?

The Celtic Cross is the best-known ten-card tarot spread, popularised largely through A. E. Waite's The Pictorial Key to the Tarot, published in 1910. It has two parts: six cards in a cross on the left describe the situation, and four cards in a column on the right describe the person and the likely course of events. In a common ordering, the first card shows the present situation and the second, laid across it, the obstacle or influence. The next cards cover the root of the matter, the recent past, the conscious aim and the near future; the column covers the person's attitude, their surroundings, their hopes and fears, and the likely outcome. Position order varies between sources. A common misconception is that the tenth card announces a fixed future; traditionally it shows where things are heading if the present course continues. You can have your cards read in this layout by choosing the Celtic Cross in a tarot reading on Faltastik.
