How Do You Cleanse Crystals?
A stone that has just arrived, or one you have carried for months, gets cleared in a handful of ways. Running water for half a minute is the most common, followed by drying with a soft cloth. Other options in this tradition: a night under moonlight, the ring of a singing bowl or tuning fork, a pass through incense smoke, or a few hours on a bed of dry sea salt, resting on top rather than buried in it. A selenite slab works too, and it asks for no cleansing of its own.
Not every stone survives every method. Selenite, malachite, pyrite, hematite, calcite, lepidolite and halite dissolve, dull or rust in water, so keep them to dry methods. Salt eats into porous surfaces, which rules it out for turquoise, opal, lapis lazuli and malachite. Amethyst, rose quartz, citrine and fluorite fade in long sun; give them moonlight or shade. When you are unsure, sound and smoke harm nothing.
