FAQ

What exactly are chakras?

In spiritual traditions, chakras are described as energy centers in the human body; the word means 'wheel' in Sanskrit. The 7 main chakras sit along the spine and are linked with bodily, emotional and spiritual experience.

How do I balance my chakras?

People usually turn to meditation, breathwork, yoga, crystals, working with color, scents and calming sounds. These are practices of rest and attention to yourself.

What are the symptoms of a blocked chakra?

Each individual chakra blockage manifests uniquely. Generally, you may experience unexplained physical discomfort, severe emotional volatility, chronic energy depletion, or chaotic overactivity.

Which chakra should I focus on first?

It is always recommended to begin with the Root Chakra. It establishes vital security and profound energetic grounding, forging the unbreakable foundation necessary for all higher chakras to open and flow.

What Are the Seven Chakras?

Chakra means wheel in Sanskrit, and in yoga and tantra it names the centres where energy is understood to gather in the body. Seven main ones sit along the spine. Root (muladhara) at the base of the spine, red. Sacral (svadhisthana) a few fingers below the navel, orange. Solar plexus (manipura) above the stomach, yellow. Heart (anahata) at the centre of the chest, green. Each centre is also given an element and a seed sound.

The upper three gather above the shoulders. Throat (vishuddha) at the larynx, blue. Third eye (ajna) between the brows, indigo. Crown (sahasrara) at the top of the head, violet or white. The lower centres carry themes of safety, desire and will; the upper ones of expression, intuition and connection. The sequence is read from the bottom up, and practice starts at the root. These are symbolic maps, not anatomical organs.

How Do You Know If a Chakra Is Blocked?

In this tradition a blockage is a way of reading, not a diagnosis. Practitioners listen for themes. Unease and a lack of safety point to the root, a creative stall to the sacral, chronic indecision to the solar plexus, difficulty forgiving to the heart. The throat collects sentences that wanted to be said and were not, the third eye a distrust of your own instincts, the crown a flatness where meaning used to be. When the same theme circles for weeks, that centre is called closed.

None of these signs is a medical finding; each can be explained just as well by sleep, stress or circumstance. If there is a physical complaint (pain, breathlessness, fatigue that will not lift), see a doctor first; chakra work replaces no treatment. To look at it from inside the tradition, note for two weeks which theme keeps returning. A short daily line is enough. The one that repeats tends to name the centre to work with.

How Do You Balance the Chakras?

A simple balancing session runs fifteen minutes. Sit with the spine upright, close the eyes and move attention from the base of the spine slowly to the crown, pausing two or three breaths at each centre. On the out breath you can sound the seed syllable, silently or aloud: lam, vam, ram, yam, ham, om, and silence at the crown. Visualising colour is the other common route, a band of light running from red up to violet.

On the body side, yoga postures get paired with the centres: malasana and mountain pose with the root, hip openers with the sacral, boat pose with the solar plexus, chest opening backbends with the heart, fish and shoulderstand with the throat. Ten minutes three times a week does more than one long hour a month; consistency counts for more than intensity here. Do not push through a posture that hurts, and check with a teacher if you are pregnant or have a back problem.
