What does the River figure tell you?
A river with breaks or obstacles points to a crossing that needs effort, while a river that widens towards the rim suggests growing opportunities. Readers often look for a bridge or boat nearby, which shows how you might get across.
A question to sit with: Where are you swimming against the current, and is it worth the effort?
By its place in the cup
In cup reading a shape changes meaning with its place. Near the handle it speaks about your own life; on the far side it speaks about what comes from outside. Time runs from the rim down to the bottom.

| Near the handleyou, home, close circle | Life at home flows on gently. |
| At the rimthe near future, within a few weeks | A crossing or change may be near. |
| In the middlethe medium term, over weeks | A journey or process that may take some weeks. |
| At the bottomthe past and roots; in some readings the distant future | The long flow of years that brought you here. |
| Opposite the handlestrangers, work, what comes from outside | Travel or connections far away. |
