What does the Key figure tell you?
A key pointing towards the handle traditionally links the opening to home, while one pointing away links it to the outside world. A faint key hints that you already hold the answer but have not used it.
A question to sit with: Which door have you been waiting for someone else to open, when you may already hold the key?
By its place in the cup
In cup reading a shape changes meaning with its place. Near the handle it speaks about your own life; on the far side it speaks about what comes from outside. Time runs from the rim down to the bottom.

| At the bottomthe past and roots; in some readings the distant future | A lasting answer to a long-standing question. |
| Opposite the handlestrangers, work, what comes from outside | A professional opening offered by someone new to you. |
