Root Chakra (Muladhara)

Root Chakra (Muladhara) is the first chakra located at the base of the spine. Represented by red color. Associated with security, survival, material foundation, and grounding. When balanced, confidence and stability are felt.

What is the Root Chakra (Muladhara)?

The root chakra, Muladhara in Sanskrit, is the first and lowest of the seven main chakras, placed at the base of the spine between the tailbone and the perineum. It is traditionally shown as a red lotus with four petals; its element is earth and its seed sound (bija mantra) is LAM, and kundalini is said to lie dormant here. The root chakra is associated with security, survival, material foundations, belonging and connection with the body, in other words grounding. In balance, a person is said to feel safe, stable and down to earth; out of balance, anxious and constantly on alert or, at the other extreme, rigid and resistant to change. Supporting practices include walking barefoot on the ground, standing yoga postures such as mountain pose and meditation with the sound LAM. A common misconception is that chakra work replaces medical treatment; these practices are complementary. You can get a reading on your root chakra with a chakra analysis on Faltastik.
