Cup Turning
The ritual of turning the cup upside down onto the saucer after drinking the coffee. An intention is set, a wish is made, and the cup is left to cool. The grounds flow naturally, creating patterns on the saucer and cup walls.
Intention Setting
The practice of focusing on a specific question or wish while drinking coffee. The clarity of intention is believed to enhance the meaningfulness of symbol formations.
Coffee Grounds
The fine coffee sediment remaining at the bottom of the cup after Turkish coffee is brewed. It is the raw material for symbol formations in fortune reading. Quality grounds come from finely ground authentic Turkish coffee.
Open Cup
A cup where grounds have mostly flowed away with few symbols formed. Interpreted as a clear future, an unobstructed path, or a person in a comfortable period.
Closed Cup
A cup where grounds remain heavily on the walls, containing many symbols. Signifies intense thoughts, a complex period, or significant energy accumulation.
Cooling Time
The waiting period after the cup is turned before the reading begins. Usually 5-10 minutes. Cooling can be accelerated by placing a metal coin on the bottom of the cup.
